Hello, I’m Joana

Hello, I’m Joana

Hello, I’m Joana

I am a Senior Neurodevelopment Specialist with over 14 years of experience, Consultant and Clinical Leader with deep expertise in Autism, ADHD, neurodevelopmental and mental health disorders.

My work spans clinical practice, family and community support, professional training and service development, always with one goal: helping children develop with confidence, autonomy and meaningful support.

I am a Senior Neurodevelopment Specialist and Psychomotor Therapist with deep expertise in autism, neurodevelopmental disorders, child mental health, inclusion, professional training and service development.

My work connects clinical practice, family support, education and team leadership, always with one goal: helping children develop with confidence, autonomy and meaningful support.

1

Specialist

I currently practice at Portugal’s largest hospital-based multidisciplinary Neurodevelopment and Child Mental Health Centre, within Hospital da Luz Torres de Lisboa, in Lisbon, Portugal. My clinical experience spans specialized pediatric neurodevelopment services within the Hospital da Luz network, including practice at a Joint Commission International (JCI)-accredited hospital. I conduct standardized assessments and provide specialist support to children, pre-adolescents, and their families through neuro-affirming, trauma-informed, transdiagnostic, and family-centered practice - because every child flourishes when the whole village is involved.

2

Coordinator

I coordinate the largest hospital-based Special Education & Psychomotor Rehabilitation Team, in Portugal, supporting clinical practice, multi and transdisciplinary collaboration, supervision and the continuous development of services centered on children and families.

3

Trainer

I develop and deliver training for professionals, families, educational and sports teams, translating clinical knowledge into practical tools for development, self-regulation, inclusion and everyday support.

4

Speaker

I participate in talks, podcasts and professional events on Autism, ADHD, child neurodevelopment, executive functioning, emotional dysregulation, self-advocacy, bilingual intervention, family and sibling support, psychomotor intervention and Equine Assisted Therapy.

A Practice Built Around Children, Families and Systems

A Practice Built Around Children, Families and Systems

My work brings together clinical practice, assessment, service development, training and leadership across neurodevelopment, child mental health and family support. From direct intervention with children and parents to consultancy with hospitals, schools and organizations, I help create informed, inclusive and sustainable pathways of care grounded in evidence, collaboration and real-world experience.

I partner with hospitals, neurodevelopment centers, schools, universities and organizations to build, strengthen and scale services for children and families. Whether you need clinical leadership, a training program, or support designing a new service from the ground up, I bring both hands-on experience and strategic thinking - and I am actively seeking to contribute to leading neurodevelopment services internationally.

Movement is more than action. It is a way of understanding how children think, feel, relate and grow.

International Opportunities

International Opportunities

I welcome collaborations with healthcare organizations, academic institutions, and multidisciplinary teams worldwide.

I am open to on-site, hybrid, and remote opportunities - both nationally and internationally - where I can contribute to shaping the future of pediatric neurodevelopment and mental health through specialist clinical practice, service innovation, workforce education, multidisciplinary collaboration, and research.

Above all, I aspire to help build services that empower children to understand themselves, communicate their needs, actively participate in decisions about their own care, and enable families and professionals to work together in creating the environments where every child can thrive.
